Flambé

Location: Gulshan 2
What We Ordered: Dinner Buffet
Total Bill: BDT 1050++

Food:
It was a special Thursday evening for us as we were giving treat to our family at one of our favorite restaurants. Everyone was really impressed by the food. The salad and appetizer section was fresh and colorful. The beef salad, the fish salad, the sausage salad and the fruit salad were worth mentioning. For appetizers, they had wonton and spring roll, both of which tasted good. The cream of mushroom soup and vegetable soup worked nicely to clear the palate. Almost all of the main dishes were above average. The szechuan beef, the lasagna, the BBQ shrimps, the fish fillet and the beef steak were too good to be found in a buffet. The chowmein, the tandoori chicken, the thai vegetables also won our heart. However we were a little disappointed by the limited number of desserts. The rice pudding, the fruit cocktail and the cream caramel was okay. They didn't have their famous chocolate mousse and what was served as a replacement called lemon mousse was disappointing. For foodies who enjoy a buffet with limited number of quality items in a relaxing ambiance, Flambe is definitely worth a try.

Handi Indian Bistro

Location: Banani Road 10
What We Ordered: Two Adrakee Nimboo Pani, Two Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Jhalfrezi, Paneer Tikka Lababdar, Lajawab Murgh Ka Makhni (Chef Special), Dal Makhni, Handi Special Kulfi and Water
Total Bill: BDT 1950

It is rare to find an Indian restaurant in Dhaka which offers pure excellence in both veg and non-veg items, let alone with fancy ambiance, good service and reasonable price. Fortunately, the new Handi Indian Bistro proves its perfection in each of this aspect. At first, we were overwhelmed by the size of the menu and the variety of items. Finally we decided to order Adrakee Nimboo Pani, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, Vegetable Jhalfrezi, Paneer Tikka Lababdar, Lajawab Murgh Ka Makhni (Chef Special) and Dal Makhni.

The refreshing Adrakee Nimboo Pani was lemonade with a dash of ginger. Both the butter naan and the garlic naan were soft. The Paneer Tikka Lababdar is an absolute delight for cheese lovers. The Paneer was cooked to perfection and the gravy was way too delicious. The balance of flavor in the Vegetable Jhalfrezi was quite good. For those who like gravy chicken items, the Lajawab Murgh Ka Makhni is a delicious catch. One can get the subtle hint of butter in the aromatic gravy with chicken cooked all through with amazing spices. The complexity of flavors in the Dal Makhni was remarkable and highly recommended. All these items can easily be shared by four persons. Their service is excellent and food was served hot in proper time. we didn't want to miss the cherry of the cake and ordered their special Kulfi. The Kulfi is surely the best I ever had. With vat and service charge included, all these amazing cost us only 1950 Taka. Based on our today's experience, this restaurant can proudly boast to be among the bests in Dhaka.

KooK

Location: Satmasjid Road, Opposite to Anam Rangs Plaza
What We Ordered: Chicken Pasta, Kook Special Steak, Lemonade, Apple Orange Juice and Water
Total Bill: BDT 1637

Food:
It was our third visit to Kook. Although the first two visits left an average impression, this time we were quite impressed. To beat the summer heat, we ordered a lemonade and an apple-orange mixed juice first. The lemonade was refreshing with the perfect amount of zing to it. The juice was much on the sweeter side, the tangyness of orange was hardly available. The chicken pasta was a delight for pasta lovers. The pasta itself was very well cooked. The creamy white sauce went really well with it. However the chicken felt a little under-cooked. The kook special steak was probably the best item to order. The steak itself was of very generous size, perfectly cooked and juicy. The mashed potato had nice kick of flavors. The sauteed vegetables were okay. The special naan which came with the steak was amazing. The combination of pineapple, cherry and cheese on the tender naan was heavenly.

Hakka Dhaka

Location: Banani Road 10
What We Ordered: Lunch Platter B for Two
Total Bill: BDT 1300

Food:
We ordered Platter B for two. The amount of food was just perfect. The spring roll was very fresh and the balance of flavor was amazing. Both the egg fried rice and the hakka noodles were delicious and none of them were very overpowering themselves so we could actually get the proper taste of the accompanying items. The hot and sour beef was probably the best item. The meat was juicy with right amount of spices with it. The hunan chicken had a nice kick of ginger. The szechuan prawn was succulent and tangy. Overall, I will recommend this place to people who love chinese food. The price was reasonable. The ambiance was cozy and simple.

MOKA Café & Bistro

Location: Banani Road 11
What We Ordered: American Chocolate Brownie and Iced Mocha
Total Bill: BDT 562

Food:
The American Brownie had everything I look for in a dessert. The look was so amazing. At first I noticed the perfect texture of the brownie submerged in rich chocolate sauce. When I tasted it, I could feel the warmth that a perfect dessert should offer and the best part is, this amazing dessert comes in a reasonable price. The Iced Mocha was really great. The balance of chocolate and coffee was perfect. It was one of the best Mochas of Dhaka.

Efes

Location: Gulshan 1
What We Ordered: Dinner Buffet
Total Bill: BDT 850++ Per Person

Food:

Salads and Appetizers:
Although there was a very limited choice of salads and appetizers, almost all of them tasted really good. The egg canape, the wonton, the spring roll, the rice noodle salad and the apple salad were delicious.

Assorted Appetizers (Spring Roll, Wonton and Pineapple Cheese Sticks), Egg Canape, Salads and Raita and Breads (Naan and Paratha)
Soups:
For soup, they had clear thai and chicken corn. Both of them were average.

Mains:
The mains were very disappointing. Among the indian items, the kebabs were very dry and almost all the curries tasted the same. Only the vegetable and the yellow daal were able to strike out. The same monotony was evident in the chinese items as well. The only outstanding item was the chilli pomfret but unfortunately this dish was refilled only once, that also after huge time gap.

Fried Rice, Chow Mein and Steamed Rice, BBQ Chicken and Chili Pomfret

Chili Chicken, Fish with Garlic, Crab, Thai Vegetable, Fish Tikka and Chicken Boti
Fish and Chicken Dopiaza, Vegetable Dopiaza and Daal
Desserts:
The desserts were perhaps the biggest dissapointment. Not only were they limited in number, the looks were repelling and all of them tasted blunt. Specially the rice cake and the tapioca pudding were not even worth a bite.

Service:
The waiters should have been much prompt in clearing the tables. One waiter had to take care of 7-8 tables.

Ambiance:
They have a fountain intended to ornament the ambiance. However, floating packets and dead insects inside it as a result of ill maintenance contributed to spoil the atmosphere.

Madchef : Naga Burger

Location: Dhanmondi 14/A.
What We Ordered: Naga Burger.
Total Bill: BDT 240.

Food:
The burger was really juicy and cheesy with the right amount of pickle and tomato. The patty was good too. The only downside was the bacon, it wasn't fried and crunchy - it was boiled and more like a salami.
